Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, Kendrick Lamar’s long-awaited new album, will be released on May 13th.

The rapper broke the news on Instagram in a letter written under his name Oklama and printed on pgLang letterhead. “At 11 a.m. PT today in Los Angeles, CA, oklama published the following statement through his company pgLang: ‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers’ is the title of the album. The release date is set for May 13, 2022. This source will be the exclusive source of factual information for this release.”

“Appreciate Your Patience,” a message at the bottom of the letter said.

Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers’ official announcement comes months after Lamar gave fans an update on the album in August. Lamar stated on his website, Oklama.com, that the album would be his final with TDE, saying, “I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural stamp after 17 years.” The Battles. The Achievement. And, of course, there’s the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to employ Top Dawg as a conduit for honest artists. “As I continue to follow my heart’s desire.”

“Love, death, and sadness have upset my comfort zone, yet the glimmers of God speak through my music and family,” Lamar said at the time, without providing any further specifics about the album. While the world around me changes, I consider what is most important. “The next existence in which my remarks will be spoken.”

Following 2017’s Damn, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers will be Lamar’s fifth studio album and first in five years (in 2018, he did anchor the Black Panther soundtrack). While Lamar hasn’t recorded any solo material since then, he’s appeared on tunes with 2 Chainz, Beyoncé, Raphael, Saadiq, Busta Rhymes, and Baby Keem, among others. One of Lamar’s two 2021 tracks with Keem, “Family Ties,” recently won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance.
