Genre: Afrobeats

Brazilian-American artist Samba Peuzzi delivers a lively blend of Brazilian rhythms and hip-hop styles on his debut album "Forawlene". Based in New York, Peuzzi seamlessly merges Portuguese lyrics with trap beats and chopped-up samples.

The album starts strongly with "Ladeira", introducing Peuzzi's agile flow over futedo drumming and funky electric piano. Standout "Espaço" layers cinematic strings under contemplative bars addressing identity and belonging. Peuzzi shows knack for catchy hooks too, like the hypnotic call-and-response of "Eu Te Quero".

Production from frequent collaborator Hugo Sanchez gives texture, from layered hand percussion to jazzy sax melodies cutting through heavier tracks. Peuzzi impressively rides each track's unique vibes with fluid delivery switching between English, Spanish and Portuguese.

While some songs like "Na Esquina" blend maxixe and hip-hop in familiar ways, Peuzzi also pushes boundaries. "Chuva" is a slow-burning Afrobeat number, and "Samba" seamlessly integrates trap snares into classic samba rhythms.

At just nine tracks and 30 minutes, "Forawlene" avoids overstaying its welcome. It establishes Peuzzi as an exciting voice blending the old and new. His stylish flow and ear for eclectic production show creativity in fusing global influences. Fans of Corpus and Luccas Carlos will find much to appreciate in Peuzzi's modern take on Brazilian genres.
